The countdown to Halloween is on, and who isn’t looking forward to sneaking a Snickers or two?  There’s nothing wrong with indulging in a little trick-or-treating, but we have discovered a way to give kids incentive to limit their sugar intake, while showing appreciation for our men and women deployed overseas.

The incentive? Cold, hard cash and the chance to win a Nintendo DS!

To participate in our Halloween Candy Buy Back program, kids and parents can bring their leftover, unopened candy to Dr. Phillips’ office at 1960 Jefferson Highway in Lutcher starting the day after Halloween, Thursday, November 1 through Friday, November 16 between 8am and 5pm (4:30pm on Fridays). Participants will get…

• $1 per pound of candy
• A Dr. Fresh Firefly light-up toothbrush
• And they can enter in a drawing for a Nintendo DS handheld gaming device

Kids are also encouraged to donate toothbrushes and write letters to the troops, which will be shipped along with the candy.

Parents deserve treats, too, so when they deliver the donations, they can enter in a drawing to win their choice of a Sonicare toothbrush or free whitening.

Operation Gratitude annually sends 100,000 care packages filled with snacks, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation addressed to individually named U.S. Service Members deployed in hostile regions, to their children left behind, and to Wounded Warriors recuperating in Transition Units. The Halloween Candy Buy Back Program is one more way to lift morale and bring a smile to a service member’s face and express to our Armed Forces the appreciation and support of the American people.

We’ll assemble the kits and deliver them to St. Joan of Arc Church in LaPlace for distribution to needy families and individuals on Friday, September 14. Dr. Greg Phillips & Associates Treats 110 Deserving River Parishes Patients to a Free Day of Dentistry

It was a dark and stormy morning… but Dr. Greg S. Phillips & Associates and their team of dedicated volunteers were determined to make Saturday’s Dentistry from the Heart event a success. And a success it was!

Eager patients without access to dental care began lining up at 4:30am on Saturday, April 21, in anticipation of the 7:30am registration time. Thanks to the generosity of St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office, a giant festival tent was ready and waiting to protect them from the elements. Patients were seen on a first-come, first-served basis, and allowed to choose to have an extraction, filling, or cleaning. By the time the 110th patient completed treatment at 6pm, final numbers included…

• 29 fillings
• 47 extractions
• 34 cleanings
• 76 x-rays
• Adding up to $23,366 worth of free dental services!

Obviously, this was a tremendous team effort. Dr. Phillips sends out a heartfelt thank-you to all the volunteers who gave their time and expertise to this worthy cause, especially Dr. Blair Gremillion, Dr. William Grand, Dr. William Wentz, and Dr. Jennifer Banquer.

Spreading Free Smiles Throughout the River Parishes

Dr. Greg Phillips & Associates Hosts Free Day of Dentistry

Dental care is not only important for a healthy smile, but for overall health. Research shows that poor oral hygiene can lead to a litany of significant health problems. At a time when the economy and exorbitant health insurance premiums can severely limit people’s access to proper dental services, Dr. Greg Phillips & Associates, of Lutcher, LA, are pleased to announce they’ll be hosting Dentistry from the Heart on Saturday, April 21, from 7:30am to 6pm.

Dr. Phillips, his staff, and a team of volunteer dentists, hygienists, and assistants will dedicate an entire day to serving the dental needs of those in our community who are without dental insurance or the adequate resources to get the care they so desperately need.

Registration begins at 7:30am. Patients over the age of six will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis, and will get to choose one of the following procedures: extraction, filling, or cleaning. Due to the anticipated high volume of response, patients should expect to spend some time waiting outside. Some tents and chairs will be available, but patients are encouraged to bring their own portable chairs to ensure comfort. Water and light snacks will be provided while patients wait.

“The River Parishes community has always been supportive of us, so anytime we find an opportunity to give back, we go for it,” says Dr. Phillips. “Dentistry from the Heart is not just about teeth, it’s about helping people at risk take that important first step toward overall wellness.”
